It can be fixed.A: This camera is powered by solar energy. As I said, this is not the end of the world. It's more important than getting things 'done'. I would say take a while to think about what you want to do. SO many people commented on pieces I had in the same spot, thinking they were new, because the background color made so much difference. I have modern art, and it looked fantastic against a truer white, for example. When I was done with the repainting, all my friends were amazed at how much difference the brighter white made. If you asked anybody who came to my house, what color the walls were, most would have just said, white, and have very little memory, or comment on the shade. Again, in the home I mentioned, the living room was white. When you try to put a 'bandaid' on it, it will often end up costing you more money, tile, etc, and you STILL have the original problem, only it is worse, because the more you try to ' band aid' it, the more noticeable it becomes that you are trying to compensate for the wrong color on the main part of the 'canvas' Instead of getting 'closer' you end up getting farther and farther apart, or a half-baked look in a kitchen you spent a lot of time, money, and heart to be your dream kitchen. I could have fooled around with trying to 'retrofit' with accessories, etc etc etc, but it would not have changed the fact that the paint color was not right. I also had a bit shiner finish on the hardwoods, and the house had a gorgeous 'gallery' look, that was much more sophisticated. I don't think you would be as unhappy if the cabinets didn't exactly match the trim, if they did not have the yellow or brown undertone, that makes such a difference between farmhouse and country bumpkin, I had ALL the walls in a previous home repainted from an antique white, to a brighter, truer white, with very little brown or yellow tone, and it was SUCH a huge difference. As a commenter said, whites are VERY tricky. What color IS the accent paint on the cabinets? Does it have a brown tone? If it does, that is what you are unhappy with. You cannot use 'clear' colors or bright colors for accents, and get the 'fresh' look I think you wanted, against cream cabinets with the antiquing. You are disappointed that your kitchen does not have the sophisticated farmhouse look. Now,do not confuse the brown and blue that has been popular in very modern design. ![]() I used to HATE the real cutesy country look, with all the dolls, tiny floral prints, and beige to dark beige and light blue. You said you wanted a 'fresh' farmhouse look, and you got 'country bumpkin' As I said, I understand, I think, what you are disappointed with, and it's the cabinet color. Okay, Yellowhouse, I read your original dilemma comments again, and the choice of 'Yellowhouse' possibly as your 'handle', indicate a strong disappointment with the cabinet color because the cream color is too dark, too yellow, brownish, and does not look good against the white trim. ![]() I plan to be in this house for the duration, but for the sake of resale value, I wonder wd it be worthwhile to design pergola so that it's basically just the underpinnings of a roof, in case the next owner wants to cover it. If not, I expect I'll be stuck paying at least $5K for a pergola. (5) I'll go out this weekend and get a patio table umbrella to see if it helps. (4) Consider same white lattice fence ()slightly higher than current) to replace current natural lattice fence in back of new furniture OR replace natural lattice with garden wall in interesting color such as I've been seeing on this site, maybe with short lattice strip across top. So, kind friends, my landscape-architect friend is coming for Labor Day, but I'm still brainstorming, so what do you think of this? (1) yes replace CLFence w/ white lattice and nice trellis entry, but mainly (2) move big planter with statue to side under mulberry, balancing the Mahonia on the right (toughest plant they cd sell me at my request), and make rustic stepping-stone pathway up to very top near fence, then pave that little area and put bench or 2 ice-cream-parlor-sized chairs and table? Balance in front of right hand side Mahonia by cutting maple down to graduating heights from path, with plants on top of each trunk, or maybe plants on two and interesting topiary frame currently on top of too-tall trunk (3) stick 3 potted plants, maybe all in one planter (have silver one on hand decorated with green leaves & little red berries) on top of grill for when not in use (usually!).
